Inauguration of the workshops on Co-creation of Smart City Living Labs
On 7 March 2025, the inauguration of the interdisciplinary design classes for students from the ENHANCE Alliance Inclusive Innovation Co-creation of Smart City Living Labs workshop took place.
The event was organized by Warsaw University of Technology in cooperation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH). The course is a 5-day event in Warsaw at WUT on 19-23 May 2025 thanks to NAWA funding with online part in between: 7th March + 21th March and 25th April 2025.
The inauguration was attended by prof. Robert Olszewski, Head of the Department of Cartography at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at WUT, Robin A. Chang, Ph.D. Chair of Planning Theory and Urban Development at RWTH Aachen University, Stefan John, Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen (Living Labs Incubator), Anna Rolewicz-Kalińska Ph.D., Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering, Agnieszka Wendland Ph.D. from the Department of Cartography at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at WUT and Anna Smulska and Piotr Szczepański from the Centre for International Cooperation.
The goal of the hybrid design course is to develop people-centered products and processes by using state-of-the-art technology to implement Living Lab in your cities. The course will aim to conduct an experiment with a chosen technology that could be part of the living lab's operation. During the workshop, we will explore concerns about diversity (along with what this means for inclusivity and equity) in Smart City Development.
The workshop contains:
- creating prototypes
- training in business modelling
- reflections on students’ experience
These activities’ objectives are to help students understand the importance and complexity of the smart city phenomena and the citizen-led needs these cities imply. They will learn about recent technology solutions applied to this topic and about how to recognise the potential of technology trends in their development. After this project, the participants will be familiar with basic ideas and theoretical concepts regarding Living Labs & smart cities, and they will be able to recognise the role of Sustainability Development Goals in this area.
The workshop is attended by 30 students from 9 universities from ENHANCE Alliance and 7 countries (Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and Italy).
