Application deadline is May 1st, 2025.

RWTH Aachen is offering second edition of the ENHANCE BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) Summer School on “Physics-Informed Machine Learning for Geotechnical Engineering”.

The course is organized by the Institute of Geomechanics and Underground Technology and is composed of an online and onsite part:

  • First, students will participate in an online introductory course from July 7-11 2025. During those days, the principles behind machine learning are discussed and students will learn about the tools they will work with, which is mainly Python code written in Jupyter Notebooks.
  • During the week on campus, from July 14-18 2025, students will apply their newly gained theoretical knowledge in a hackathon-style workshop. Different tasks and problems will be provided, which will be solved by the students in a collaborative and informal setting. The goal of this session is to deepen the skills gained in the theoretical seminar and to share knowledge among participants. The practical nature of the workshop will also lead to a better understanding of the implementation, chances, and limitations of physics-informed machine learning methods. Last but not least, the hackathon is also a great opportunity to crack interesting modelling problems and network with students and faculties from different countries.

The application is open to Master's students in engineering, geophysics, computer science, and applied mathematics. Students can earn a total of 3 ECTS for the course and receive an Erasmus+ grant from their home university. For more information, please get in contact with the Erasmus+ Office at WUT.
